Dr. Winsome Beverley Christie
Integrated Medicine & Naturopathic Physician, Registered Pharmacist
For over three decades, Dr. Winsome Beverley Christie has given sterling service to the medical industry in Jamaica, earning her the National Award, Badge of Honour (Merit) in 2017, as well as the President’s Award Utech, Jamaica, 2018 for Outstanding Past Student. Her dexterity in the medical field spans two important roles, a Naturopathic Doctor (Traditional) and Clinical Pharmacist.
She has clients who come from as far as Canada, the U.S., United Kingdom, Cayman Islands, Bahamas and St. Martin as well as locally. She serves as an advisor to Complementary and Alternative Medicine Advisory Boards, Committees, and Regulatory Agencies within the Ministry of Health and Wellness. She has established the first Complementary and Alternative Health Pharmacy in Jamaica which provides high quality and affordable health care to all as well as specialized compounded formulae. She has also designed educational courses to enable others to pursue training in this field.
Dr. Christie’s specialized skills are also accessible through her media presence on various national TV and radio shows and the delivery of high-quality articles. Capacity building programmes for health professionals in government and private institutions are also a significant part of Dr. Winsome Christie’s professional repertoire.
She has been a lecturer at several Universities and Colleges for over 10 years; The All-American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS), The University of Technology and Church Teachers College. Dr. Christie has a Doctoral Degree in Naturopathy, Doctor of Philosophy in Holistic Nutrition, a Master’s in Clinical Pharmacy and a Master’s of Science in Holistic Nutrition as a few of her credentials
Doctor Christie is currently a candidate in a Fellowship Course at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, La Jolla, California and is affiliated with Cannabis research agencies.
Dr. Ellen Campbell Grizzle
Chief Regulatory and Compliance Officer, Pure Jamaican Ltd.
Ellen Campbell Grizzle is a Registered Pharmacist with over 40 years of experience. She has worked in community and hospital pharmacy . Ellen was the regulatory pharmacist in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector at Abbott Laboratories that operated in Montego Bay. She was Dean of the College of Health Sciences (2011-2016) and Creator and Convenor of the Caribbean Institute of Pharmacy Practice Policy and Research (CIPPPAR)
Dr. Grizzle has received numerous awards from her profession in Jamaica and the Caribbean and the Government of Jamaica for her contribution to the development of the profession of pharmacy. She is a graduate of University of Technology, Jamaica, University of London and University of the West Indies. Dr. Grizzle is a Registered Pharmacist
Codi Peterson
PharmD, MS
Codi Peterson is an accomplished clinical pharmacist specializing in pediatric emergency medicine and cannabis pharmacology. At Children’s Hospital of Orange County, he provides 24-hour emergency response, spearheads innovative projects like the ED Pyxis Optimization Pilot, and mentors pharmacy students and residents. His contributions earned him the “2021 ED Pharmacist of the Year” award, reflecting his dedication to excellence in clinical practice and patient care.
Dr. Peterson is also a leader in cannabis science education. As an Associate Professor at the University of California Irvine, he co-chairs a pharmacy elective on cannabis pharmacology and develops educational materials. His role as Chief Science Officer at The Cannigma includes creating science-focused media and consumer education, furthering public understanding of medical cannabis. He is a sought-after speaker, delivering presentations on topics such as the endocannabinoid system and cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.
With a Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University and a Master’s in Medical Cannabis Science from the University of Maryland, Dr. Peterson is at the forefront of integrative medicine. As a co-founder of the Pharmacists Cannabis Coalition of California and an advisor to multiple organizations, he continues to blend clinical expertise, education, and advocacy to shape the future of pharmacy and cannabinoid therapeutics.
Dr. Mary Van
Clinical Pharmacist and Nutritionist ThriveX Clinic , Florida
Codi Peterson, Clinical Pharmacist
Dr. Mary Van is a caring clinician that works with patients to regain their health. She is dual specialized in Pharmacy and Nutrition. Dr. Van is a frequent guest lecturer at Nova Southeastern University, Gilda Club and the Broward County Pharmacy Association. Topics have included proper therapeutic use of Cannabis, nutrition in the elderly, nutrition in cancer patients, pharmacogenetics and nutritional genetics. Dr. Van has a wide range of experience including critical care, ambulatory care, intravenous infusions, infectious disease, cannabis, genetics and nutrition. She is presently Co-Chairman of the National Exam Committee for the American Clinical Board of Nutrition.
Dr. Van has spent the last 3 years creating a unique medical practice that focuses on healing and prevention. Her dual specialty makes her uniquely able to address patient’s health with individualized tailored therapies.

Professor Donald P. Land, Ph.D.
Professor, Chemistry, Forensic Science and Biotechnology University of California, Davis
Donald P. Land, Ph.D., is a tenured Full Professor of chemistry, forensic science, and biotechnology at the University of California, Davis since 1991. Land conducts research and publishes in the fields of analytical chemistry, biotechnology, forensic science, and solid state physics. Some of those projects are in collaboration with scientists employed at crime laboratories at local, state, and federal (including FBI, DEA, and ATF) levels. Land also designs and delivers courses in chemistry, forensic science, and good quality practices at undergraduate and graduate levels and particularly teaches the theory and practice of substance identification and quantitation and statistical treatment of such data. Land holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from UC,
Irvine (1989), and was a Humboldt Fellow at the Research Center, Jülich – a German national laboratory – in 1990-1991. The focus of Land’s doctoral and post-doctoral work was in spectroscopy (the study of the interaction of matter and radiated energy), and mass spectrometry (the study of the interaction of charged matter with electromagnetic fields to ascertain masses of atoms and molecules) and those continue to be areas of focus at present.
Dr. Land is also a Scientific Consultant in the fields of cannabis and hemp and derived products, including regulation, testing, processing, manufacturing, delivery methods, biochemistry, and agriculture methodologies and best practices. Land has brought numerous organizations into ISO compliance in these fields. In 2010, Land co-founded Halent Scientific, an early cannabis-testing laboratory, in West Sacramento, CA. In July 2013, the Halent team joined Steep Hill. The combined companies did business under the trade name Steep Hill, where Land served as Chief Scientific Consultant. Land has evaluated products ranging from purified compounds to complex infused foods, brewed and fermented beverages, medical delivery devices, artificial lighting, soil amendments, pest deterrents, and tissue cultures. In addition to other consultancies and serving as an expert witness in a wide variety of civil and criminal jurisdictions. Land is on the Steering Committee for the newly established (summer, 2019) UC Davis Cannabis and Hemp Research Center and, in May 2020, was voted the number one “Analytical Guru” in cannabis analysis by the trade journal The Cannabis Scientist in their “The Cannabis Scientist Power List 2020” (https://thecannabisscientist.com/power-list/2020) and recognized as a Top FIve Cannabis “Analytical Hero” in their 2021 Power List (https://thecannabisscientist.com/power-list/2021).
Dr. Land has provided testimony, declarations and advice to attorneys and lawmakers in numerous countries on six continents, over a dozen U.S. states, and dozens of counties and municipalities in reference to cases involving controlled substances, patent infringement, and matters related to regulation of controlled substances. Land has testified in court on numerous
occasions as an expert witness regarding scientific evidence interpretation. Land also served as a reviewer for the textbook Scientific Evidence, Edward J. Imwinkelried, a textbook cited twice by The Supreme Court of the United States of America in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals. Land has also served as reviewer of grant proposals for government and non-government funding agencies and of publications for numerous scientific journals.
Introducing CIPPPAR
CIPPPAR was established in 2008 as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Technology, Jamaica and the Caribbean Institute of Pharmacy Policy, Practice and Research (CIPPPAR) . The institute also manages the affairs of the UTech Pharmacy Alumni (UPA). The founder and convenor of CIPPPAR is Associate Professor Ellen Campbell Grizzle
CIPPPAR was established to:
- Undertake research in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals including observational studies and clinical trials
- Broker policy for the advancement of the profession
- Offer short courses and credentialing opportunities
- Undertake psychometric assessment for entry into Caribbean Schools of Pharmacy
- Manage the UTech Pharmacy Alumni to:
- Provide financial support for pharmacy students in need of financial support
- Promote the programmes and activities of the School of Pharmacy
- Provide mentorship for Pharmacy students
- Plan events to raise funds for the School of Pharmacy
- Encourage pharmacy graduates to donate funds and other resources for the enhancement of programme delivery
Unakite Clinical Studies Network
In the field of Clinical Studies, Dr. Grizzle established a Network to provide a range of services for clients and patients in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. The name of this Jamaican based entity is Unakite Clinical Studies Network (UCSN).
Unakite addresses the paucity in clinical studies services in the Caribbean in the areas of alliopathic medicines and herbals including Medical Cannabis. Although a new entity established in 2017, the core members of Unakite are experienced specialists and consultants who are extremely competent in conducting a vast array of clinical studies
